Meet Amy

Amy and Lauren at Recycled Runway Mt Gambier 2022

Part-time seamstress, costume designer, hospital worker and mum

After moving to Mount Gambier in 2015, Amy was introduced to the concept of up-cycling old clothes through a local fundraising event known as Recycled Runway, where entrants are given a bag of op-shop clothing and use it to create a new outfit that fits that year’s theme. She thought it was an interesting concept but hadn’t sewed anything since home economics classes in the 90s.

In December 2016, she was gifted a sewing machine, which sat in its box for several months until she learned that a friend needed clothes for a premature baby, so she dragged it out and started practicing.

Her first few projects included a number of Sew Prem gowns, and she soon expanded her repertoire into clothes for herself and her family, tote bags and kids clothes, before tackling her first Recycled Runway Project in mid-2017.
